Cawlyn was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2017 where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He attended the University of Houston Law Center where he received his Juris Doctorate in 2022.
While in law school, Cawlyn clerked for the Honorable Christine Weems of the 281st District Court in Harris County and was a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) team and the Mock Trial team. He competed in the ABA Client Counseling competition, competed in nationals in ABA Arbitration, and was a national finalist in the FINRA St. John’s Securities Dispute Resolution Triathlon. Due to his contribution to the UHLC advocacy teams, he was awarded the Order of the Barristers.
Cawlyn was a Harris County Assistant County Attorney handling Texas Civil Practice & Remedies Code Chapter 125 nuisance abatement cases, Texas Public Information Act appeals, and Harris County Boarding Home Regulations enforcement. He currently is an adjunct professor of Legal Negotiations and Attorney Communication & Persuasion. He is also the Assistant Director of the UHLC Alternative Dispute Resolution team.
